So, what exactly are overnight oats? In simple terms, overnight oats are a blend of rolled oats and liquid, usually milk or a milk alternative, that are left to soak overnight. This soaking process allows the oats to absorb the liquid, soften, and become creamy, resulting in a deliciously satisfying breakfast without any cooking required.

Ingredients

1 cup rolled oats

1 ½ cups milk (or almond milk)

1 large apple, peeled and diced (Honeycrisp works great!)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon nutmeg

2 tablespoons maple syrup (or honey)

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

¼ cup raisins or dried cranberries (optional)

Greek yogurt or whipped cream (for topping, optional)

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, milk, diced apple, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Stir until all ingredients are well mixed.

If you’re using nuts and dried fruit, fold them into the mixture at this point. This adds a delightful texture and extra flavor.

Divide the mixture evenly into 4 jars or containers with lids. Make sure to leave a little bit of space at the top, as the oats will expand as they absorb the liquid.

Seal the jars tightly and place them in the refrigerator overnight (or for at least 6 hours) to allow the oats to soften and the flavors to meld.

In the morning, give the oats a good stir. If they seem too thick, you can add a splash more of milk to reach your desired consistency.

Top with a dollop of Greek yogurt or whipped cream if desired, and sprinkle with additional cinnamon or nuts before serving. Enjoy your delicious Apple Pie Overnight Oats straight from the jar!
