Charcuterie, derived from the French word for “cooked flesh,” refers to a branch of cooking devoted to prepared meat products. Traditionally, charcuterie boards showcase a variety of cured meats, cheeses, pickles, and spreads, often accompanied by bread or crackers. The history of charcuterie can be traced back to ancient times, where preservation methods were essential for food safety and flavor enhancement. Over the centuries, these techniques evolved, leading to the delicious array of meats and accompaniments we enjoy today.

Ingredients

1 large bag of tortilla chips (10-12 oz)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup thinly sliced pepperoni

1/2 cup thinly sliced salami

1/2 cup prosciutto, torn into pieces

1/2 cup pickled jalapeños (drained)

1/3 cup olives (black or green), sliced

1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced

1/4 cup fresh parsley or basil, chopped (for garnish)

1 cup sour cream (for dipping)

1 cup guacamole (for dipping)

Hot sauce (optional, for drizzling)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Layer the Chips: Spread half of the tortilla chips evenly on a large, oven-safe baking sheet or a wooden board.

Add the Cheeses: Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses over the first layer of chips, ensuring even coverage.

Add the Meats: Layer half of the pepperoni, salami, and prosciutto evenly over the cheese.

Add Vegetables and Jalapeños: Scatter some of the pickled jalapeños, olives, cherry tomatoes, and red onion over the meats.

Repeat the Layers: Add another layer of the remaining tortilla chips and repeat the process—adding the remaining cheeses, meats, pickled jalapeños, olives, cherry tomatoes, and red onion.

Bake the Nachos: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve: Remove the nachos from the oven and sprinkle chopped fresh parsley or basil on top for a pop of color. Serve immediately with sides of sour cream, guacamole, and a drizzle of hot sauce, if desired.

Enjoy Your Creation: Gather around your magnificent Charcuterie Board Nachos and enjoy with friends or family!
