6 slices of white or whole grain bread

2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for sprinkling)

Optional: powdered sugar for dusting or caramel sauce for drizzling
