Ingredients

1 cup vanilla cake mix

2 large eggs

1/3 cup milk

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup strawberry puree (fresh or store-bought)

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup chocolate chips

1/2 cup maraschino cherries, for garnish

Whipped cream, for serving

Crushed nuts or sprinkles, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Cake: In a mixing bowl, combine the vanilla cake mix, eggs, and milk. Mix until well combined. Pour the batter into a greased 8-inch cake pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Once baked, let it cool completely.

Make the Chocolate Soup Base: In a saucepan, combine whole milk, heavy cream, cocoa powder, sugar, and vanilla extract. Heat over medium, whisking frequently until the mixture is smooth and just starts to simmer. Do not let it boil. Remove from heat and set aside.

Create the Strawberry Layer: In a small bowl, mix the strawberry puree with a little sugar if desired to sweeten. Adjust to taste.

Assemble the Cake Soup: Once the cake is cooled, cut it into small cubes. In serving bowls, place a generous amount of cake cubes at the bottom. Pour the chocolate soup base over the cake until just covered.

Add the Strawberry Layer: Drizzle the strawberry puree over the soup and gently swirl it to create a marbled effect.

Garnish: Top each serving with a dollop of whipped cream, sprinkle chocolate chips on top, and add a maraschino cherry for a pop of color. Optionally, you can add crushed nuts or sprinkles for an extra festive touch.

Serve: Serve immediately while the soup is warm, allowing guests to enjoy the contrast of flavors and textures.
