Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

3 large eggs

1 cup buttermilk

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

½ cup strawberry puree (fresh or frozen, thawed)

½ cup chocolate chips

1 cup heavy whipping cream

2 tbsp powdered sugar

Fresh strawberries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter or non-stick cooking spray and line the bottom with parchment paper for easy removal.

Make the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-4 minutes with an electric mixer.

Add Eggs & Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract until well combined.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Divide the Batter: Gently fold in the strawberry puree, taking care to create a marbled effect. Then, add chocolate chips to the remaining batter, stirring until evenly distributed.

Layer in the Pan: Pour half of the batter (chocolate) into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly. Then, add the strawberry-marble batter on top and finish with the remaining chocolate batter. Use a toothpick or knife to swirl the layers gently for a marbled effect.

Bake the Cake: Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cake: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the Whipped Cream: While the cake cools, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar in a mixing bowl until stiff peaks form.

Serve: Once the cake is completely cooled, top it with the freshly whipped cream and garnish with fresh strawberries if desired. Slice and serve!
